The Cloud to become part of the BSkyB Group
: Through the acquisition, Sky will benefit from ownership of an established, large scale WiFi network, both in terms of an ability to add value to Sky customers, as well as through synergies with Sky’s existing businesses. In time, network ownership will enable Sky customers to enjoy comprehensive WiFi access away from home, which in turn will support access to Sky’s own online and mobile content services.
For The Cloud, the acquisition brings additional resources to support future expansion plans and the acceleration of network rollout into new locations, providing not only a greater density of coverage, but also an improved customer experience.
In addition to benefitting from joining one of the UK’s largest and most established entertainment and communication groups, The Cloud’s current business to business operations will remain unchanged and will continue to focus on the provision of quality WiFi services to venues such as Marriott, McDonalds, Pret a Manger, Eat and The NEC, as well as wholesale customers. The Cloud will also continue to work with forward thinking councils and property management companies, such as the City of London and Canary Wharf Group to deliver city outdoor networks and to make the theory of fully meshed seamless connectivity a reality.
Following integration of The Cloud into its business, Sky will have the opportunity to further enhance the wireless experience offered through The Cloud by taking advantage of connectivity to Sky’s high capacity, state-of-the-art broadband network. In addition to its 10 million television customers, Sky has also been the UK’s fastest growing broadband and home phone provider for more than three years.
