The Cloud and Future Publishing to offer exclusive content for PSP over public WiFi

28th March 2007

1.5 million PSP owners across the country will be able to access the Internet, play online multiplayer games and get exclusive content, from over 7,500 UK hotspots, through a new dedicated PSP portal developed by The Cloud, Europe’s leading public WiFi provider.

The Cloud has partnered with Future, Europe’s leading publisher of video games magazines and websites, to offer a PSP optimised version of Games Radar, its popular games website. Available only through The Cloud’s PSP portal, the site will offer the latest news and reviews as well as exclusive content and downloads. Gamesradar.com has quickly become the leading destination for gamers with over four million unique visitors every month, according to HBX figures.

The service will be free to all PSP users for the first month followed by a subscription of £4.99 per month for full unlimited access to exclusive content, as well as internet browsing and online gaming. Once registered, the user’s PSP will automatically connect when it detects a Cloud hotspot.

Earlier this year The Cloud launched a partnership with Channel 4 to offer radio programming from 4Radio, featuring news, music and audio updates on popular shows like Celebrity Big Brother.  These podcasts, including up to date news from popular Channel 4 show Shipwrecked, will also be available through this new portal.

Over the coming months the PSP portal will be expanded to include more exclusive content from Channel 4 and Future, as well as a host of other partners to be announced in the coming weeks.

Owen Geddes, Group Director of Business Development at The Cloud, commented: “This partnership with Future and the existing relationship with Channel 4, show The Cloud’s ability to deliver great content and experiences on the move. The PSP is a great portable media device and with the introduction of a specialist package and seamless access from The Cloud, users will be able to get even more from it.”

"We are delighted to be working with The Cloud on this pioneering new offering for PSP owners across the UK. Games Radar on The Cloud will offer games the latest PSP news, previews, reviews and cheats, whilst giving advertisers a chance to directly target PSP owners with their latest releases.   Future continues to innovate as a games media specialist, and this is a fantastic way of making our content available to gamers on the move." Ryan Ferguson, Digital Sales Director, Future.

To register for the new service, PSP users can sign up in a Cloud hotspot by visiting http://play.thecloud.net through the Internet Browser on the PSP.
