We are participating in an Industry trial of WISPr 2.0, a standard backed by the Wireless Broadband Association, which provides a seamless authentication capability for Mobile Phone customers.
By enhancing the Cloud Service Platform to support the new WISPr 2.0 standard, we intend to be one of the first Wi-Fi providers to be able to offer seamless authentication to our Mobile Operators partners. Using the SIM credential from the handset, authentication is requested directly from existing Operator platforms. This benefits both the operator and the end-user - the time and effort for operator enablement is minimised, and the need for individual customers to ‘register’ or activate Wi-Fi is removed.
For the trial, we have implemented support for WISPr 2.0, and are working with industry partners to demonstrate end to end authentication from smartphones and laptops with 3G dongle, through the Cloud service platform, to Mobile Operators HLR GSM platforms.
We see this as a transformational capability, enabling all Mobile Operators to easily provide Cloud Wi-Fi to their customer base, without complex, bespoke infrastructure design & implementation, and without having to compromise on highly usable seamless customer experience.
